Frequently Asked Questions

What are the days and hours of operation?

The Pumpkin Patch Festival runs for three weekends in October: 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22. The museum doors open at 9:30 AM, and the first train departs for the Pumpkin Patch at 10:00 AM. Trains run every 30 minutes, departing the museum campus at the top and bottom of each hour; departing the Pumpkin Patch at 20 and 50 minutes after each hour. The last train back from the Pumpkin Patch will be at 4:45pm each day.

I bought tickets, then found I can’t make it that day. Are tickets exchangeable for a different day?

I bought tickets, then found I can’t make it on any Pumpkin Patch day. Are tickets refundable?

For a refund, or to make a donation of your unused tickets, please ask our front desk staff, or contact the museum: This email address is being protected from spambots. What is included in the Pumpkin Patch admission price?

Your ticket includes transportation to and from the pumpkin patch on our restored historic electric trains; admission to the Pumpkin Patch and most activities and entertainment. Visitors may travel back and forth to the Pumpkin Patch as many times as they wish during the day that they visit. Pumpkins, food & drink, and some games at the Pumpkin Patch are offered at additional cost. Only cash is accepted for these items.

Is there an ATM available?

There is no ATM at the Western Railway Museum or the Pumpkin Patch. Credit/debit cards are accepted for admission tickets. Pumpkins, and other items for sale at the Pumpkin Patch are cash only.

Are restrooms available at the Pumpkin Patch?

Portable restrooms are available at the Pumpkin Patch, including hand-washing stations. Full restroom facilities are only available at the Visitors Center on the Western Railway Museum campus.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Dogs must be leashed at all times – at the Railway Museum, on the trains, and at the Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkin Patch trains can carry capacity crowds during peak times, and there will be hundreds of people at the Pumpkin Patch during most operating hours. Please be sure your dog is well behaved in crowd situations. You are responsible for your dog’s behavior at all times.

What about strollers?

Strollers are welcome. When you prepare to board the train, notify a uniformed museum volunteer of your stroller. Strollers are transported to the Pumpkin Patch in different ways, depending on passenger loadings for each trip. On a crowded train, you might not have access to your stroller during the 20 minute train trip to or from the Pumpkin Patch. Uniformed museum volunteers will help load and unload your stroller. Please do not leave valuable items in your stroller when it is not in your sight.

Why are museum ticket prices increased during Pumpkin Patch weekends?

When you buy your pumpkin patch tickets, 100% of the ticket price goes to support the activity and operation of the Western Railway Museum, and also to support the many charitable activities carried out by local chapters of the Rotary Club. Both organizations are non-profit charitable institutions that rely on volunteers and donors to carry out their mission. The Western Railway Museum itself receives no public financing. Your ticket price helps support our operation and ongoing fulfillment of our mission to “preserve the regional heritage of electric railway transportation as a living resource for the benefit of present and future generations.” For more information on the many causes supported by Rotary Clubs all over the world, please visit www.rotary.org.

I am a museum member and my membership includes free admission. Why do I have to pay an added charge during Pumpkin Patch weekends?

The Western Railway Museum depends on the annual Pumpkin Patch weekends to deliver up to 30% of our annual admissions revenue. It is the single most important fund-raising event for the museum each year. During this time, we ask our members to pay the difference between a standard museum admission ticket, and a Pumpkin Patch ticket. Your ticket price directly supports the museum and its activities, as well as the many causes and charities supported by our partners, the local chapters of Rotary Club. Your generosity is the lifeblood of the Western Railway Museum, and your ticket purchases and contributions are sincerely appreciated.

What other activities are offered at the Western Railway Museum during Pumpkin Patch Weekends?

Our Pumpkin Patch weekends are typically attended by several thousand people. In order to host the event safely and create an enjoyable experience for all visitors, the museum dedicates all of its volunteer and staff resources to the event’s success. For this reason, no other railroad operations or tours are offered during Pumpkin Patch weekends. The museum’s Visitor Center and picnic park are open and available for your use, included with your admission.

I would like to have a museum outing for my group, and we can only do it in October. What can we do?

If availability of equipment and volunteer staff allows, we may be able to accommodate your group on a non-weekend day during October.
