Volunteers

The Museum is currently seeking volunteers in the following areas:

Visitor Services Docents
Be the first smiling face people see at the Museum! We’re looking for 6 people to work between 2 and 4 days per month at the Western Railway Museum giving tours, developing and leading interpretive activities, and helping visitors at the Admissions Desk, Store and Depot Cafe.

Maintenance and Restoration Shop
Help keep our historic operating fleet in tip-top shape. The Shop crew meets Wednesdays and Saturdays each week. We especially need people skilled with metal working, woodworking, welding, machinists, carpenters, electricians, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers. Even if you don’t have these skills but would like to learn, come volunteer in the Shop.

Track
Want to work with big machines in the great outdoors? The Track Crew maintains the railroad right-of-way for our historic trains on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Media Planner
Are you employed in the advertising industry? The Museum needs your help for a special short-term project related to media planning.

Every aspect of the Museum, from Conductor to Motorman to restoration specialist to archivist to museum store operations, is run by volunteers.

Be it once per week, once per month, in one of our well-established departments, or just during special events like the Pumpkin Patch each October, or the Scenic Limited trains each April, we need your help!

We provide equal opportunities for men and women.  It doesn't matter if you have special skills or not; we provide all the necessary training.  All you need is a willingness to cooperate with others, some spare time, and an interest in supporting the Museum’s mission to preserve and interpret the regional heritage of electric railways.
