We Need Your Help

We Need Your Help

Dear Members and Friends of the Museum,

The Bay Area Electric Railroad Association’s fiscal year ended on September 30th. As most of you are aware, the Museum has been closed to the public in an abundance of caution since early March due to the COVID-19 emergency. We share the same mix of emotions as all of you have been having during these times and are anxious to return to normal. We are looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces on our historic electric interurban trains and streetcars out here at Rio Vista Junction when we are able to reopen. It has been disappointing to all of us here at the Western Railway Museum not to be able to be open every weekend or to offer all of our favorite events like Pumpkin Patch, Scenic Limited, and Santa Train to our visiting public.

Not only has it been tough on all of us here at WRM in terms of not being able to have the normal rewarding experience of seeing our beloved visitors in such a long while, but it has also had an unforeseen negative financial impact on the Museum. Even though we have been closed to the public, we still have ongoing expenses such as electricity/gas, garbage, office staff, and the list goes on and on. We normally count on the income from our normal operations and special events which goes into our General Fund to cover these costs throughout the year. For example, our Pumpkin Patch event alone, after expenses, brings in close to $50,000.00 and our ever-growing Santa Train event isn’t far behind in total. We had truly hoped to break records again this year, but unfortunately the pandemic has had other plans for us all.

As you all can imagine, it was a no-brainer when our Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee sat down to identify the General Fund as priority for our end of year fundraising campaign. We are asking for your help this year by directing your donations towards our General Fund. This will help the Association make up for the loss of income we’ve experienced in 2020. With your donations, we will be able to put our best foot forward when we are able to re-open again.

Please visit our website's donation page https://www.wrm.org/support/donate where you conveniently make a donation to our General Fund. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to reach out this year especially during these difficult times. We look forward to hearing from you soon and hopefully also seeing your donation as well.

Respectfully,
Alex Mahshi, Chairman of The Board
